Home / Driveway grading cost
What does driveway grading cost in Evergreen?
The honest answer: every mountain driveway is different, and none of them are cookie-cutter. Here's how our pricing works, what drives it up, and why the cheapest job usually costs the most in the end.
Our price ranges
These are real ranges from mountain driveway work, not teaser prices. For perspective: even a short driveway can need around $3,000 in gravel alone, before any grading or drainage work.
$550
Job minimum
Only for the simplest jobs: a few hours of machine work or hand work, using material already on site, with little or no new material.
$2,000 to $5,000
Most driveways
Where most mountain driveways fall once grading, drainage, base work and new surface material are included.
Up to $50,000
Large projects
Long driveways that need a lot of gravel or recycled asphalt, or major drainage work with culverts, basins and riprap.
What drives the price up
Length
A longer driveway means more grading, more base and more surface material.
Steepness
The steeper the driveway, the more complex the drainage, and the more it affects which surface will hold.
Drainage to build
Culverts, water bars, riprap-lined ditches and basins to carry the water away safely.
Base and material
Unstable soil that has to be dug out and replaced with road base or structural fill, and the gravel or recycled asphalt on top.
Slopes that will receive the redirected water may also need erosion control, which adds to the cost but keeps the fix from creating a new problem.
Why cheap gravel-only jobs wash out
The cheapest quote is usually new gravel spread on top. It looks good for a season. But the water still runs down the driveway, the base underneath is still weak, and the next monsoon storm cuts the same ruts again.
Then you pay for the same fix twice. Fixing the drainage first, then the base, then the surface costs more up front and far less over the life of the driveway.
